Handling an Employee Working Two Full-Time Jobs

Remote work comes with certain risks, and no company is immune to the possibility that an employee could take advantage of their employer's trust. In recent years, many HR professionals have been confronted with a serious dilemma: How should they deal with an employee simultaneously working two full-time jobs?

In a new SHRM article, Fallon Carpenter shares a glimpse into her thought process when she realized an employee had been taking advantage of a remote setup to work two senior-level jobs. After verifying the information was true, she fired the person immediately. Fallon explained that while Sentinel allows employees to work two jobs, they should always notify their manager to ensure the role does not create a conflict of interest.

"Not only did this employee break policy," she said, "they also no longer aligned with our value of integrity and being honest and transparent."
