Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

A Flexible Spending Account, or FSA, is an employer-sponsored benefit that allows you to put away pre-tax dollars to pay for certain types of expenses. Since participants don’t pay taxes on the money elected for an FSA account you’ll save an amount equal to the taxes you would have paid on the money set aside.

Please keep in mind that your Sentinel Group Benefits Card is valid for a period of three years. If you have cards today, you’ll want to hold on to those cards as your 2026 funds will be loaded on to those same cards.

The Health FSA covers out of pocket medical, dental, and vision expenses. Common eligible expenses include copays, coinsurance, deductible expenses, pharmacy copays, dental work, orthodontia, eyeglasses, and contact lenses.
*Effective 1/1/2026

For 2025, the limit is $3,300
The Dependent Care FSA is used to pay for day care for a child who is 12 years old or younger. In addition to day care, certain camps and after-school programs are also eligible.
*Effective 1/1/2026

For 2025, the limit is $5,000
The Limited Purpose FSA is used when you are also contributing to a Health Savings Account (HSA). This plan covers dental and vision expenses; but, unlike the Health FSA, it does not conflict with or disrupt your HSA eligibility.
*Effective 1/1/2026

For 2025, the limit is $3,300

FSA-Eligible Items

Know what's covered and what's not. Paying for certain healthcare and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars has never been easier.

Eligible medical expenses are those incurred primarily to alleviate or prevent a physical or mental defect or illness. They do not include expenses that are merely beneficial to general health, such as vitamins or a vacation. Qualified medical, dental, vision and prescription expenses are designated by the IRS.

Your Sentinel Group Benefits Card

The easiest way to tap into your FSA funds and pay for an eligible medical, dental, or vision expense is with your Benefits Card:

  • Save money on qualified expenses
  • Reduce paperwork
  • Eliminate the wait for reimbursement

Important Note! Your cards are valid for three years, so you’ll want to hold on to your cards from one year to the next. If your cards are expiring, you will receive a new set of cards during the month that your current cards are set to expire.

FSA Benefits Card FAQs

The Sentinel Group Benefits Card can be activated by calling the number located on the sticker on the front of the card when it is first received. Even though you will receive two cards, you only have to call once to activate both. They will be available for use within 24 hours of activation.

You are issued two cards so you can choose to make the second card available for a spouse or dependent. Both cards come in your name, but since the debit card is signature-based, your spouse or dependent just needs to sign the back of the card and it is their card to use.

Elections for subsequent plan years will be added to your existing card. New cards will automatically be issued and mailed to you prior to the existing card’s expiration date.

From the Home page, hover over Accounts and select Banking/Cards from the Profile section. Under the Debit Cards column, click Report Lost/Stolen or Order Replacement and follow the instructions.

Your card can be used as either “Debit” or “Credit.” In order to use the card as a “Debit,” you must establish your own PIN by calling the number located on the card and walking through the setup instructions.

Backup documentation may be needed to substantiate a claim upon adjudication of a debit card swipe. If Sentinel has an email address on file, we will send you an email and the password for this secure document will be the last 4 digits of your debit card. Otherwise, we will send you a letter via mail. You must provide the receipt for the eligible expense or payment in lieu of receipt. This is why it is important to always hold on to your receipts when using your debit card. For more information visit help.sentinelgroup.com/help/request-for-more-information.

If you do not provide a receipt confirming eligibility of the debit card purchase in a timely manner, your debit card will be suspended pending resolution. If a receipt cannot be provided or the purchase is deemed an ineligible expense, you will be required to repay the claim amount before your debit card can be reactivated.
