Plan Details
- The BILH FSA plan runs from January 1 to December 31.
- Your plan offers a two-and-a-half-month grace period, meaning that expenses incurred by March 15th can be applied against any remaining prior year balance.
- All claims for the prior plan year must be submitted by March 31 of the following year.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)
A Flexible Spending Account, or FSA, is an employer-sponsored benefit that allows you to put away pre-tax dollars to pay for certain types of expenses. Since participants don’t pay taxes on the money elected for an FSA account you’ll save an amount equal to the taxes you would have paid on the money set aside.
2 FSA Options
Medical and Dependent Care
Medical FSA | Dependent Care FSA |
---|---|
$3,050 IRS maximum election for a Medical FSA | $5,000 IRS maximum election for a Dependent Care FSA |
The Medical FSA covers out of pocket medical, dental, and vision expenses. Common eligible expenses include copays, coinsurance, deductible expenses, pharmacy copays, dental work, orthodontia, eyeglasses, and contact lenses. | The Dependent Care FSA is used to pay for day care for a child who is 12 years old or younger. In addition to day care, certain camps and after-school programs are also eligible. |
Account Access
You can access your account anytime and anywhere via our mobile app. Simply download the Sentinel (FSA HSA HRA) Mobile App from the App Store or Google Play to get started. The app even has a special feature for the Medical FSA that allows you to scan a UPC code to determine whether or not the item is eligible for reimbursement!

Commuter Benefits
Commuter Benefits consist of two separate and distinct benefit options: Parking and Transit. These are used to pay for either parking or public transportation expenses incurred commuting to and from work.
For Transit, several types of public transportation options are eligible, including the subway, bus, ferry, and a van pool arrangement.
Parking & Transit
$300/month
Each benefit carries a separate monthly limit that is established by the IRS. Learn more here.
- Commuter funds roll over from month-to-month and year-to-year. These funds will remain yours as long as you are employed by BILH.
- While you can make a Parking and Transit election at open enrollment, you also have the option to enroll, drop, or change your Commuter elections on a month-to-month basis. This provides some flexibility should your commuting situation change.
- One final note: the monthly limits that are noted are both contribution and spending limits. This means that even if you have built up a balance in your account from previous months you may not spend more than the monthly limit in pre-tax dollars in a given month. If your monthly expenses exceed that limit, you can contribute additional funds on a post-tax basis. Your post-tax contributions will be combined with your pre-tax contributions so you can pay for your monthly transportation costs conveniently through one source.
Your Sentinel Group Benefits Card
The easiest way to tap into your FSA funds and pay for an eligible medical, dental, or vision expense is with your Benefits Card:
- Save money on qualified expenses
- Reduce paperwork
- Eliminate the wait for reimbursement
Important Note! Your cards are valid for three years, so you’ll want to hold on to your cards from one year to the next. If your cards are expiring, you will receive a new set of cards during the month that your current cards are set to expire.
