John Carnevale is a Founder and President of Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group. John oversees the management of four separate businesses and is primarily responsible for the company’s vision and business development. During his 26 year career, he has acquired and integrated eleven businesses to grow Sentinel to one of the largest independent employee benefit firms in the United States.

In January 2007, John negotiated the sale of Sentinel to Focus Financial Partners where he retains management control over the Sentinel enterprise and an ownership interest in both Focus Financial Partners and Sentinel Management Company, LLC.

John graduated cum laude with a B.A. from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME in 1985. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1991. He serves on several boards including his high school alma mater, St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, MA.

He is a FINRA Registered Securities Representative, General Securities Principal, Investment Advisor Representative. John holds FINRA Series 7, 24, 63 and 65 securities licenses. He is also a licensed Life & Health insurance agent.

James Carnevale is a Founder and Executive Vice President of Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group. He has over twenty years of employee benefits, insurance and investment experience, specializing in the various design, implementation, and administration of employee benefit plans. James specializes in employee benefit matters, business and personal insurance and risk management, and retirement plan investment reviews.

Robert M. DiMase, AIF®
Executive Vice President, Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group
President, Sentinel Insurance Agency, Inc.

Rob DiMase is the Executive Vice President of Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group and President of Sentinel Insurance Agency, Inc. As a 17 year industry veteran, Rob specializes in the design, implementation, communication and administration of all types of employee benefits plans.

Rob began his career as an account executive with Great West Life Assurance and Annuity Company where he was responsible for marketing fully insured and self-funded Health, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability insurance; Flexible Spending Account programs and 401(k) plans. He joined Sentinel Benefits as a sales representative in 1993. In 1998 he became a partner in the organization.

Rob holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a concentration in Marketing from Boston College. He is a Board member of the Massachusetts Association of Health Underwriters and an active member on Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Harvard Pilgrim broker advisory boards.

Rob holds FINRA Series 6, 63 and 65 securities licenses. He is also a licensed Life & Health insurance agent and licensed Life & Health insurance advisor.

David Scarpello
Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group

David Scarpello is the Chief Operating Officer of Sentinel Financial Group and has been with the company since 2003. He started his career as the company’s Chief Financial Officer and has served in his current role since 2006. As Chief Operating Officer, David is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Sentinel’s business operations including Retirement Services, Health & Welfare, Information Technology, Client Services, Finance and Human Resources. As a leading member of Sentinel’s senior management team, David is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of the company’s short and long-term strategic objectives.

Prior to joining Sentinel, David developed and ran the Treasury & Credit department for Private Healthcare Systems.

David received a Bachelor’s degree cum laude in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire, and a Master’s Degree in Finance from Bentley College.

David holds a FINRA Series 27 (Financial & Operations Principal) securities license as well as the Certified Treasury Professional credential as a member of the Association of Financial Professionals.

Matthew H. McPhail, CFA
Chief Investment Officer, Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group

Matthew McPhail has oversight of the investment programs, investment manager selection and asset allocation strategies offered though Sentinel Pension Advisors, Inc. He leads the Sentinel Investment Committee and is responsible for communicating information on financial markets to our Advisory Representatives. Matthew received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1997 and is currently a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society and the CFA Institute. Prior to joining Sentinel, Matthew held portfolio management positions with Loring, Wolcott & Coolidge in Boston and Cabot Money Management in Salem, MA.

He has the following educational background and certifications:

Samuel Mitchell
Executive Vice President, Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group

Sam Mitchell joined Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group in 2000 and is currently the Executive Vice President of Sentinel Benefits Group. Sentinel Benefits Group is one of Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group’s four businesses and provides consulting and administration services to organizations throughout the United States. Sam oversees all aspects of the business, including operations, client experience and business development.

Prior to Sam’s most recent position, he has held leadership positions throughout the organization. This included 401(k) plan administration, Flexible Spending Accounts, Health Reimbursement Arrangements, COBRA administration and other fringe benefits. Sam specializes in the design, implementation, communication and operation of all types of employer-sponsored benefit programs.

Sam holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and Accounting from Gordon College.

Frank Oppedisano
Senior Vice President, Retirement Services

Frank Oppedisano is responsible for all aspects of Sentinel's Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution Retirement Services including: Relationship Management, ERISA Compliance, Document Services, Operations, and Transition Services. Frank's primary focus is to manage the strategic direction of this business unit while ensuring timely and accurate plan administration with superior client service.

Frank joined Sentinel in 2009 as Director of the ERISA Compliance department and brings over 20 years of experience in the retirement plan industry. Prior to joining Sentinel, Frank served as Vice President of Client Service Administration for New York Life Investment Management where he managed various retirement groups for both defined benefit and defined contribution plans. Frank's experience includes knowledge and oversight of ERISA Compliance, Operations and Client Servicing teams.

Frank graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance.

Ernesto DiGiambattista
Chief Technology Officer

Ernesto DiGiambattista is responsible for defining Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group’s  information technology vision and enabling technology solutions, which provide Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group the ability to better service our members, participants, associates and partners.

Ernesto has over seventeen years of experience in executing within a global enterprise risk management environment by providing business and technology solutions for the financial services and related industries.

Prior to Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group, Ernesto was a Vice President at Bank of America Merrill Lynch within the Corporate Audit and the Supplier Resiliency organization.  Ernesto was responsible for managing complex domestic and international internal technology audits and assessing tier 1 vendors that handled confidential and sensitive information.

Ernesto holds a Master of Business Administration with Beta Gamma Sigma honors and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with cum laude honors from the Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University.  Ernesto is a Certified in Risk and Information Systems Controls (CRISC) professional. Since 2008, Ernesto has been a member of the Suffolk University Executive MBA Admissions Committee.

Douglas Dustin
Chief Financial Officer
Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group

Doug Dustin joined Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group in 2012 and is currently our Chief Financial Officer. He leads our finance and accounting team that supports our businesses, focusing on our business models, execution of the company’s strategic objectives and managing the companies’ resources efficiently and effectively.

Prior to joining Sentinel, he has held finance leadership positions in divisions of Fortune 500 companies and start-ups. Doug has served as the Vice President, Finance at Thomson CompuMark, a division of Thomson Reuters and also the Controller of SmartBargains Inc., CO Space Inc. and MTV Networks.  He most recently served as a finance consultant at EMD Serono. 

Doug is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University with a B.B.A degree in Accounting and is a licensed CPA.

Doug lives in Hopkinton, MA with his wife and two children.
